Research topic: prescribed fire management effects on plants in the Asteraceae

Research interests: plant community ecology, restoration ecology, responses to prescribed fire, prairie conservation

Recent awards: Garden Club of America Montine M. Freeman Scholarship in Native Plant Studies $3,000

Research: I will be studying how prescribed fire as a management tool affects species diversity and richness of plants in the Asteraceae in remnant and resorted prairies in western Minnesota. By analyzing how prescribed fire influences Asteraceae plant communities, the most diverse plant family globally, I hope to fill a critical knowledge gap in restoration science. Beyond data collection, I aim to further enhance my taxonomic identification skills and deepen my understanding of prescribed fire as a management tool.
