Biography
I am a postdoctoral researcher bridging the Department of Physics and Department of Plant Biology and Conservation. The project I am currently working on applies the concepts of network theory to the broad area of plant grafting to help understand grafting compatibility and predict new graft unions with implications for sustainable agriculture, carbon storage, and conservation of tree species.
My background is in plant systematics and ecology. For my PhD I worked on the phylogenomics and patterns of speciation in Southern African Iridaceae, particularly the diverse genus, Geissorhiza.
Other research interests include: speciation, conservation and ecology of grassland ecosystems of the Midwest and renosterveld ecosystems of South Africa, floral mimicry, orchids, and bogs.
